A friend of mine posted the following link on her journal: http://www.mapsexoffenders.com/ . You can type in your address and see how many sex offenders live near you. It pinpoints everyone that's registered in your area and when you click on the red pinpoints, it pulls up their name, address, and photograph. Be safe, everyone!

Edited to add a couple things:

1. This ONLY tracks *registered sex offenders.* And considering the majority are never caught, don't assume someone isn't a predator just because they're not on the map.

2. I think most of my flist knows this, but just in case someone doesn't, because I just encountered this elsewhere...there is a HUGE difference between sexual offenders and homosexuals. Not to pat myself on the back or anything, but I'm a very open-minded person who accepts people for who they are. And the majority of you people are the same way. Just for clarification.

Well this makes me feel good knowing there may not be sex offenders living on my street. I told my dad that under no circumstances was I going home after my night class on the bus unless he was there to walk me home if he couldn't come get me directly.

I found it very interesting to see all the scumbags that live way too close to me. And now I know who is who - well, who's been caught at least. It's always good to know what kind of trash your neighbors have lying out on their curbs.

Scary, but not all together surprising...is there a law in NC that they have to live so many feet away from a school?

I wanna say yes, but honestly, I'm not sure. The elementary school in question that's near where I teach has sooooo many sexual offenders, but they don't seem to be living all that close to the school itself. So... maybe there is a law. Thank God.
