Mar. 10th, 2011 09:45 amYeah. Two in a row, guys, because I'm pissed and this needs to be brought to light. For those of you who haven't heard, there was a horrible sexual assault in Texas, which was covered by the New York Times. I'm unclear on how many men assaulted an ELEVEN year old girl. I've read eighteen and I've read twenty-eight. All the men were between 18 and 27 years old.
And if you read that Times article, they make it sound like it's HER fault.
Let's get something clear. An eleven year old CANNNOT consent to sexual activity. It does NOT matter how she was dressed, who she hung out with, etc. It is completely irrelevant.
The hospital worker was upset because of how this would affect the boys' future.
What about how this is going to affect that GIRL'S life? She was gang-raped and BLAMED for it.
I am SO tired of living in a blame-the-victim society. It's time for people to start taking some accountability for their actions. Let's place the blame where it belongs here--on the men who did the crime.
And also on the writer of the Times article. Click here to sign a petition to the paper to issue an apology to the victim, who was the only one who was actually HARMED in this entire mess.
