In a New York Minute (Part Seven)

There was a crowd of people surrounding the docks, but nobody was talking. It was eerily silent for a city the size of New York.

The red lights from the squads circled and made the people's faces seem like they were glowing--red faced silent demons who parted to make a path for her as she approached.

One of the demons stepped in front of her but when the light whirled away, she saw it was only Sully.

His face was grim. "Faith..."

She moved past him without a second look.

"You shouldn't see this," he called after her.

She could hear her heart beating loudly in her ears as she stared at their squad car. The driver's side window was shattered, drops of blood mingling with the rain and broken shards on the pavement.

There was more blood inside the car, staining the seat, the steering wheel.

"Faith, come on," Davis whispered as he appeared at her side from out of nowhere.

"He's not here."

He gazed at her with worried eyes. "We haven't found his--"

She turned her head to state at him, her eyes steely. Cold. Effectively stopping him from finishing his words.

"Let us take you home."

Faith turned away from him and moved closer to the car, feeling bile rise in her throat as she spotted his badge on the floorboard, several drops of blood staining the numbers.

3379.

A hand on her shoulder. She quickly looked, expecting to see him. Instead Sully gazed back at her, sympathy in his eyes.

"He's not dead." The first words she'd uttered since she'd picked the phone up from where she'd dropped it and he'd told her where they were.

"Faith--"

"He's not." She quickly moved past him, her stomach turning as it revolted against the scene. She threw up in the street, her face ghastly pale.

"Easy," Davis murmured, rubbing her back.

"He's not dead," she whispered, tears sparkling in her eyes.

He gazed at her. "How do you know?"

"Because I still feel him. He's not dead, Davis. He's not!"

"I belive you," he whispered, reaching into his uniform pocket and pulling out a handkerchief.

Faith wiped her mouth on it, clutching it tightly in her fingers as silent sobs wracked her body.

"Come on. Let's get you home."

"How's she doing?" Alex asked softly as she stepped inside the Boscorelli's apartment and looked at her fiance.

"Not so good," Davis answered just as softly.

"I bet not." She slipped her coat off and draped it over one of the kitchen chairs.

"Is it still rainin'?"

"Yeah. Weather guy said another storm was headed our way." Her gaze shifted to the table. Flowers and unlit candles adorned the surface, as well as two plates, two salad bowls, two glasses and polished silverware. Alex closed her eyes. "God. Poor Faith."

Davis slid his arms around her, hugging her tightly. He placed a kiss against her temple. "Thanks for coming."

"Faith's a good friend. I wanted to." She tightened her arms around him.

"I know." He closed his eyes.

They held each other for a long, silent moment.

"I should go check on her."

"Yeah." He pulled away, kissing her softly.

Alex drew in a breath and turned to head down the hallway, slowly approaching Faith and Bosco's room. She knocked softly on the door and when there was no response, she pushed it open and stepped inside anyway.

Faith stood at the bedroom window, staring outside at the rain. A hand resting lightly on her stomach.

"Faith?" she whispered.

She didn't move, just continued to watch the rain.

Alex moved so she was standing behind her. She rested a hand on her shoulder.

"He's not dead, Alex," she whispered, her face pale.

"Why don't you lie down?" she whispered back.

Faith nodded wordlessly, allowing the other woman to guide her to the edge of the bed, where she sat down. Her gaze immediately shifted to the frame on her beside table. It was her and Bosco's wedding picture.

Alex looked at the photo. "He's strong," she said softly. "And he loves you more than anything in the world. If there's any way he can get back to you, he will."

"I need him, Alex." She closed her eyes, leaning back against the pillows. "I can't lose him."

She swallowed hard, trying not to put herself in the other woman's shoes. She hoped she never had to feel the same fear and loss that her friend was feeling. "You won't," she whispered. "Just try and rest." She sat back against he headboard, smoothing the hair off Faith's forehead.

Faith curled up on her side as she began to drift off to a restless sleep.

Outside the storm grew closer.

* * *

His head ached. He could feel something warm trickling down the side of his face. He tried to remember if he'd rolled up the squad car window or if that's why he was wet.

Upon effort, he managed to open his eyes but he couldn't quite make out his surroundings. Everything was blurry. "Faith?" he murmured.

A groan escaped his lips as his head throbbed. He tried to reach up to see if he was bleeding, but he couldn't move his hands. Blind panic hit him when he realized both of his arms were chained back, effectively immobolizing him.

"Soon." He heard a whisper but he couldn't make out where the voice came from.

Then the darkness enveloped Bosco once more.

It's about time! ;o)

I'm so glad you got back to this one! Poor Bosco and Faith. How is anyone ever going to find Bosco? Faith doesn't need this kind of stress in her condition. :o(

I'll be waiting for the next installment...

Of course I remember this one...

Of course Bosco and faith are linked... and of course Faith knows he's still alive.

Poor Bosco, though... the torture...
