I'm on a major reading spree these days and would love to hear your book recs--fiction, non-fiction, anything. I have a wide range of interests from psychology/sociology subjects to art to writing to weather and pretty much anything you can think of. After a couple days I'll be post dating this and keeping it at the top of my LJ so random passer-bys can rec things! :) Thanks!

I just got done with the Twilight book series (Twilight, New Moon and Eclipse) by Stephanie Meyer. They're young adult, but it seems like women up to 50 enjoy reading them. They're a sci-fi romance type thing... vampires, werewolves, all that good stuff.

Gah! I just finished Eclipse like, two days after it came out. What a great series! Can't wait for the next one, whenever that might be. Thanks for the rec! :D

It is a great series. I read the entire series the last two weeks, now I'm done and I have no idea what to do with myself. Accourding to stephaniemeyer.com the next book, which right now is called Breaking Dawn, should be coming out in the fall of 2008.

Here's the link to my Library Thing catalog, where I'm gradually adding in the books I have on my shelves. I've been weeding them out so if it's on the list, it's because I thought enough of it to keep it so I could re-read or refer to it.

Oooh. Never been to that site before but now I think I might sign up. I've thought about cataloging my books before--I'm assuming it does the alphabitizing for you? Thanks for the link!

They have various options for ordering your book list. It does it for you. Also, once you get some in that are typical of the categories you read, they have an option that recommends books to you. Some of them will be things you already have, so you can just click a few links to add it to your own list! Makes it really fast to put a lot of books in. And those recommendations keep leading to more and so on.

And it's FREE! Up to 200 books, then just 25 dollars for life. That may go up with time but right now we can get in on the ground floor, so to speak.

It also makes a good resource if you have a fire and need to use insurance money to replace your library--you have an off site list of what you own!

For One More Time by Mitch Albom is good -- real tear jerker though, and fairly depressing, so I wouldn't read it if you're already feeling sad or anything. But he's such a good writer, though!

Another is ANYTHING by Isaac Asimov. I don't mean that as a title, just anything he writes is really great. Especially the short story, Bicentennial Man. I love the movie, but I love the short story better! He also writes this one novel called 'The End of Eternity', but it's fill with techno mumbo jumbo that goes over my head, but it's a good read though.

Anything by Lillian O'Donnell will amaze you, she writes the best cop novels I've ever read.

Ooh. The only one by Albom I've read is the Five People You Meet in Heaven and I loved that one. I think I may have read something by Lillian O'Donnell before--I think you may have rec'd her to me a few years back actually? Thanks! *hugs*

Jasper Fforde - The Eyre Affair (and entire series)

Michel Faber - The Crimson Petal and the White, and also, for something completely different, Under the Skin

Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and the various tragicomedies (more interesting than you might think!)

Catherine Jinks - Eye to Eye (plus others)

Michael Cunningham - Specimen Days

Let me know if you need more and I'll look for stuff that isn't sitting at the front of my brain.

I'm a pretty big fan of Philip Roth: The Human Stain, American Pastoral, and his short story Goodbye, Colombus are all really good. I Married a Communist and Portnoy's Complaint are worth reading as well.

I'm also a fan of spiritual/transcendental stuff, such as Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintence, Suzuki's Zen Mind Beginners Mind, and Throeau's Walden.
