Today, a man named Christopher Donaldson was laid to rest. He was a soldier who was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan recently. He was from a town about an hour from me.
And as his family and friends and his community showed up to pay their respects, a bunch of fucking shitheads from the Westboro Baptist Church showed up carrying signs that said things like, "Thank God for dead soldiers" and other such utter fucking nonsense. They claim that because America "tolerates" homosexual people, that every soldier who dies fighting this war goes to Hell. Now I haven't figured that one out myself. Personally I think that's pretty fucked up. Obviously.
Illinois recently passed a law that said that funeral protestors couldn't come within 200 feet of the funeral or the individuals at the funeral. You know what? I still think it's fucking bullshit. I think it should be ILLEGAL to protest someone's FUNERAL. What the fuck? What the hell gives you the right to go and hassle grieving families and friends who've lost a loved one?
I'm all for freedom of religion and freedom of speech, but holy fuck, can't people just show some DECENCY and RESPECT to their fellow human beings?
Fuck you and your stupid ass "religious" beliefs, Fred Phelps and followers. I hope someone locks you in your warped church and blows it the hell up.
