Introducing Mr. and Mrs. Queen ♥♥
xtremeroswellia: (TB: Lafayette: Hookuh please!)
As Japan struggles to overcome a disastrous string of events -- including a possible nuclear catastrophe -- millions of us have sought to help, often by donating money to urgent relief efforts.

But if you donate via text message, your donations may take up to 90 days to reach aid organizations that need the money as soon as possible.

Even though they're getting large amounts of free media attention for their text-to-donate programs, companies like AT&T and Verizon have chosen not to release the donation money right away. Many customers assume that they're sending funds straight to disaster zones in the crucial days after the earthquake, but donations are transferred after the end of your next billing cycle, a process that can take up to three months.

Masaya Uchino, a law student in San Francisco with family in Japan, started a petition on Change.org to demand that AT&T, Verizon, and other major phone service providers stop delaying much needed donations from reaching organizations doing relief work in Japan. Please add your name to the petition now:

After the earthquake in Haiti, Change.org members and others asked phone companies to provide donations immediately -- and the phone companies came through. But so far they've refused to take the same step, and it's up to us to join Masaya in speaking out.

Thanks for taking action,

- Weldon and the Change.org team

P.S. If you want to donate immediately to relief efforts, join the Change.org staff in contributing to one or more of these great organizations:

Day One

Day Two: my least favorite song.

"Dancing Queen" by Abba. I loathe this song with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. I'm sure there are others I hate, but this one sprang to mind pretty quickly.

Yeah. Two in a row, guys, because I'm pissed and this needs to be brought to light. For those of you who haven't heard, there was a horrible sexual assault in Texas, which was covered by the New York Times. I'm unclear on how many men assaulted an ELEVEN year old girl. I've read eighteen and I've read twenty-eight. All the men were between 18 and 27 years old.

And if you read that Times article, they make it sound like it's HER fault.

Let's get something clear. An eleven year old CANNNOT consent to sexual activity. It does NOT matter how she was dressed, who she hung out with, etc. It is completely irrelevant.

The hospital worker was upset because of how this would affect the boys' future.

What about how this is going to affect that GIRL'S life? She was gang-raped and BLAMED for it.

I am SO tired of living in a blame-the-victim society. It's time for people to start taking some accountability for their actions. Let's place the blame where it belongs here--on the men who did the crime.

And also on the writer of the Times article. Click here to sign a petition to the paper to issue an apology to the victim, who was the only one who was actually HARMED in this entire mess.

A new show started a few weeks ago, and it stars Kathy Bates. This show is called Harry's Law. I tuned into the pilot because I've always liked Kathy Bates, and it looked funny. I expected it to be amusing and maybe even kind of a spoof of other law shows.

It is funny.

But it's also made me cry more than once. This show deals with real life issues (the law office is set in the middle of the "ghetto,") and social justice and it's just...amazing without being overly preachy. The cast is amazingly talented and works well together. I sincerely love this show, and it has become my new favorite program on TV.

Those of you whom I was in the Joan of Arcadia fandom with? This show touches me on the same level that one did, and frankly no other show has done that before.

So if you're not watching, I implore you to tune in and give it a shot.

Happy sigh.

Just rewatched "Fortune" which I enjoyed MUCH more this time around simply because I knew that my couple was going to end up happy and together married.

I do wish there had been more of the lemur, LOL.

Cut for incoherent rambling. )

/end giddy hyperness...for now :D
